FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Emergency Services continues to monitor Tropical Storm Debby. Cape Fear and Little River water levels are beginning to decrease.
To consolidate resources and serve those with continued flooding impacts, the Smith Recreation Center shelter will close at 9 a.m. this morning, Friday, Aug. 9, 2024.
As of 8 a.m. today, 52 people and 2 pets were in the emergency shelters. Emergency Services will review shelter needs throughout the day to determine the need for continued shelter availability.
The Ann Street Landfill and all container sites are open for their normal business hours. Only four-wheel drive vehicles with dump trailers and heavy-duty commercial garbage trucks will be allowed at the Ann Street Landfill until further notice. Vegetative storm debris should be taken to the Wilkes Road Compost Facility.
