MICHAEL C. BOOSE was elected to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as a District 2 representative in 2016. He was re-elected in 2020 and his current term expires in 2024. Mr. Boose is a member of the Cape Fear Valley Hospital System Board of Trustees and is Chair of the Ethics and Compliance Committee and the initial committee for the Cumberland Performing Arts Center. He served as the Board Liaison to the Public Works Commission. Mr. Boose was also appointed to serve on the Alliance Behavioral Healthcare Board of Directors. Currently, he also serves as the Board Liaison to the ABC Board and is designated a Deputy Fire Commissioner by the Cumberland County Fire Chiefs Association.
Mr. Boose graduated from Pine Forest High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from East Carolina University and his Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law.
Returning to Fayetteville after law school, Mr. Boose served as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies in District and Superior Court. He has practiced law for more than 40 years. Mr. Boose served as the former town attorney for Hope Mills and Spring Lake and currently is senior partner at the Boose and Stewart Law Office.
Mr. Boose is a present or past member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Caroline Advocates for Justice, North Carolina Bar Association, Cumberland County Bar Association, American Bar Association and Academy of Trial Lawyers of America. His attorney recognitions include being listed in “Top Lawyers in North Carolina” in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 by the Legal Network and Top 100 DWI Attorneys in North Carolina by the National Advocacy for DWI Defense in 2017, and Lawyers of Distinction in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and the 2018 American Institute of Trial Lawyers Litigator of the Year.
Mr. Boose has been involved in various political, professional, and civic organizations. He was elected to four terms as an at-large representative and served 18 years on the Cumberland County Board of Education. Mr. Boose was elected by fellow Board of Education members to serve four terms as chairman. Governor McCrory appointed Mr. Boose as the North Carolina Chairman of the Board of the Federal Military Interstate Compact Commission for Children. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Fayetteville Technical Community College for 12 years. Mr. Boose is a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He was Chairman of the Cumberland County Board of Elections.
In his first year as a commissioner, Mr. Boose was selected as “Best of Fayetteville – Most Responsive County Politician – 2017,” by Up and Coming Magazine and was selected again in 2019. Mr. Boose has been selected in the Top 3 Attorneys by the Fayetteville Observer for 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.
Mr. Boose is a past president and member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club. He is a current or former member of the Cumberland County Dispute Resolution Center and Teen Court (25 years), Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Arts Council, and Botanical Garden.
Mr. Boose is married to Donna Boose and they have five children, Michael Jr., Jenna, Brad, Justin, and Jessi. Additional family members include Michael Jr.’s wife Laura, Jenna’s husband Blake, and Justin’s wife Megan. Mr. and Mrs. Boose have three grandsons, Cameron, Tyler, and Coleman, and a granddaughter, Madi.
