Commissioners

W. Marshall Faircloth was first elected in 1992 to the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as a District 2 representative and served until 1996. He was re-elected to the board in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Mr. Faircloth was elected again in 2022. His current four-year term expires in 2026. Mr. Faircloth served four terms as the board’s vice chairman and three terms as the board’s chairman. He also served on the Mayors’ Coalition.

As a member of the Cape Fear Valley Hospital System Board of Trustees, he has been appointed to the Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Compensation and Investment Committee, Medical Education Committee, Bladen Hospital Board of Directors, Board Quality and Patient Safety Committee and Diversity Practice Committee.

Mr. Faircloth serves on the Government Services Campus Committee, Grays Creek Countywide Water Committee, Fayetteville-Cumberland Liaison Committee, Finance and Audit Committee and the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Mr. Faircloth was elected to the N. C. Association of County Commissioners’ Board of Directors as the District 6 director for 2016-2018. He also served as chairman of the on the NCACC’s Tax and Finance Steering Committee from 2016-2018.

Mr. Faircloth is a current or former Board of Commissioner liaison to the ABC Board, Social Services Board, Mental Health Board, Municipal Parking Committee, Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Fayetteville Futures II, Joint Transit Study Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Joint Planning Board, Fire Chiefs’ Association, the Arts Council and also as the military liaison. He was appointed as a member of the Child Homicide and Identification and Prevention Council and the Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board. He also served on the Cumberland County Personnel and Finance and Policy committees. Mr. Faircloth is a former chairman of the Cumberland County Board of Education and City of Fayetteville Planning Commission.  

A native of Cumberland County, he attended Cumberland County Schools. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has worked in public accounting and financial consulting in Fayetteville since 1972.

Commissioner Faircloth and his wife, Carol, have grown children and four grandchildren. His hobbies include golf, physical fitness, playing the guitar, traveling, reading and watching sports.
