The Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. has awarded the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library, Inc., a grant in the amount of $13,050.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland Community Foundation, Inc. has awarded the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library, Inc., a grant in the amount of $13,050. The grant money is designated to support the Cumberland County Public Library Summertime Kids grant program, an initiative that has been positively impacting the lives of youth since its inception in 1992.

The Summertime Kids grant program, as funded by the Cumberland Community Foundation, has been instrumental in facilitating life-changing summer experiences for over 1,000 youth annually. With the support of this grant, the Friends of the Cumberland County Public Library, Inc., provides books and tote bags to children and teens participating in summer camps organized by local nonprofits, neighborhood groups and community organizations. The distribution of age-appropriate books encourages a love for reading and equips young minds with the tools they need to academically and creatively thrive.

Throughout the summer months, Cumberland County Public Library staff will engage with various camps across the community, ensuring that each child receives two thoughtfully selected books and a tote bag. This initiative aims to reach a diverse array of youth across multiple locations, including but not limited to:

  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Cape Fear Botanical Garden
  • Cape Fear Regional Theater
  • Communities United for Youth Development
  • Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation
  • Fayetteville State University Space Camp
  • Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Inc.
  • The First Tee of the Sandhills
  • Greater Life of Fayetteville
  • Moore Street Foundation
  • Salvation Army

By collaborating with these organizations, Cumberland County Public Library will foster a culture of literacy, learning and community enrichment beyond traditional library boundaries. Through strategic partnerships and targeted outreach efforts, the library empowers youth from all backgrounds to embark on a journey of discovery and growth.
