Let's step up and walk together!
The Adult Services section of Cumberland County Department of Social Services is participating in The National Center on Elder Abuse's 4th Annual Virtual Walk for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). Adult Services issued an agency-wide challenge to encourage staff to raise awareness about maltreatment and exploitation of the elderly by walking or running.
The virtual walk began on May 1, 2024, and will end on June 15, 2024. The dates coincide with Older Americans Month, proclaimed as the month of May, and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), which is June 15, 2024.
Adult Services will also host a Pinwheel Planting Ceremony on Friday, June 14, 2024, to commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Both events serve as reminders that elder justice is a collective responsibility.
