Godwin Opens New Splash Pad

Jun 01, 2019

The Town of Godwin opened a new splash pad at the Willie J. Burnette Park this morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The park is located at 4924 Markham St., just past the Godwin Town Hall.

Splash pad hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 7 p.m. Splash pads were opened at the Eastover and Wade community parks May 22.

“There was a long time when I thought this would never happen,” said Godwin Mayor Willie Burnette at the ribbon cutting. “About two months ago, this was like a lake, but Parks and Recreation hauled in dirt and put down sod. I would like for everybody to come out and really enjoy this park because it’s beautiful.”

“This is a great day for the town of Godwin and all of northern Cumberland County. Parks and Recreation did an excellent job and it’s wonderful to see our Cumberland County recreation dollars going toward the splash pad addition to this park,” said Cumberland County Commissioner Glenn Adams. “It could not have come at a better time with temperatures near 100 degrees all this week.”

The 1,500-square-foot splash pad is funded by County recreation dollars. Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation is completing final preparations for the opening of two more pads in Gray’s Creek and Linden.
