The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will host its third Annual “Fun in the Sun” event . The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Public Health Center parking lot, located at 1235 Ramsey Street.
This family-friendly event will feature booths, displays, giveaways, and free snacks. Food trucks will also be onsite with items for purchase. The schedule of events includes stage performances and short informational sessions on vaping, naloxone and breastfeeding. The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will showcase their many programs and services and welcome the community to visit the vendors that will be located both indoors and outside of the Health Department. Individuals who visit vendor tables are eligible for door prizes (must be present to win).
This free event will bring together health department clinics, County departments, and community organizations to share information with the community on health, safety and wellness. To encourage healthy life choices, the event will promote positive physical activity for youth through outdoor play. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), physical activity has been shown to help us immediately feel better, function better and sleep better. It also reduces anxiety and improves brain health
Back-to-school immunizations for school children and teenagers in grades K – 12 will be available. Walk-ins will be accepted until the clinic reaches capacity. Insurance will be collected. However, vaccines are free for children under 18 through the “Vaccines for Children” program. Bring an ID card, a copy of your insurance card and your immunization records, if available.
Free haircuts for school-aged children will be provided by the Barber Kings. Other participating organizations include Partnership for Children, Child Advocacy Center, Children’s Home Society, Sam’s Club, Cumberland County Public Library and many more.
