Commissioners Approve Conducting Gray’s Creek Engineering Report

Feb 20, 2018

FAYETTEVILLEDuring their regular meeting Feb. 19, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved hiring the local engineering firm Moorman, Kizer & Reitzel Inc. to complete a Preliminary Engineering Report for extending water lines in the Gray’s Creek Water and Sewer District. Private wells in the district have tested above the state’s provisional health goal of 140 parts per trillion for GenX.

Commissioners also approved an Interlocal Agreement with the Public Works Commission to pay an equal share of the $129,330 cost for the report. The item was passed as part of the consent agenda after being approved by the Finance Committee on Feb. 15.

Among other actions taken, the commissioners also:

  • Approved three rezoning requests.
  • Approved transferring property at 2122 Lillington Highway along the Little River to the Town of Spring Lake for use by the Spring Lake Fire Department for emergency access if needed for water rescue operations. The County acquired the property in 1999 through the State Hazard Mitigation Program and the land cannot be developed in any manner that could possibly result in a future disaster claim.
  • Approved a $1.06 million contract to replace the center-hung scoreboard and LED ribbons at the Crown Coliseum and a separate contract to construct a retaining wall at the facility after the existing wall was damaged during Hurricane Matthew.

The meeting’s agenda is available online at co.cumberland.nc.us. The meeting will be rebroadcast on Fayetteville/Cumberland Educational TV (FCETV), Spectrum Channel 5, Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 10:30 a.m. The meeting can also be viewed online at youtube.com/CumberlandCountyNC.
