FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Beginning Feb. 7, 2025, Cumberland County Public Library (CCPL) will offer financial education programs and resources for children ages 3 through 12. CCPL is one of 300 libraries to receive Thinking Money for Kids Program Kits. CCPL went through a national application process prior to being selected by the American Library Association (ALA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation. The program kits are a collection of expertly vetted resources to help libraries teach children financial literacy concepts, both at the library and at home. Children can learn about topics such as earning, saving, spending, sharing and budgeting in fun, meaningful ways.
“We are excited to bring the Thinking Money for Kids Program Kits to Cumberland County,” said Assistant County Manager and Library Director Faith Phillips. “We encourage parents to visit the library to check out a Playaway Launchpad tablet to bring home. These brand-new tablets are pre-loaded with fun financial education games.”
Playaway Launchpads are kid-friendly tablets designed to continue learning at home with no home Internet connection required. Launchpads are available to check out for three weeks from the Headquarters, Bordeaux Community, East Regional, Hope Mills Community, North Regional and West Regional Libraries. Games that are pre-loaded on the Launchpads also have corresponding physical games in the library.
Thinking Money for Kids Programs will be presented at Hope Mills Community Library on the following dates:
- Friday, February 7, at 1 p.m.
- Friday, April 11, at 4 p.m.
- Friday, May 9, at 4 p.m.
- Friday, June 13, at 4 p.m.
- Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m.
