FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Due to continued hazardous fire conditions, Cumberland County Fire Marshal Kevin Lowther reminds residents of the statewide burn ban, effective as of 8 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025. The ban remains in place due to ongoing dry weather, high winds, and an increased risk of rapid fire spread in the region.
This burn ban follows the recommendation of Local Forest Ranger Craig Gottfried and guidance from the North Carolina Forest Service. As part of the statewide burn ban, Cumberland County residents are prohibited from engaging in any open flame activities, including burning debris, campfires, and any other form of fire activity. The burn ban will continue until it is lifted by the North Carolina Forest Service.

Prohibited Activities: All open flame and fire-related activities are prohibited, including burning debris, outdoor fires, and other similar activities.

Enforcement: The ban is enforceable under Cumberland County’s Fire Prevention Ordinance Section 6.2-26 and NC Fire Code Section 307.1.1 (2018 Ed).

Duration: The burn ban will remain in effect until it is lifted by the North Carolina Forest Service.
