Dec 14, 2021, 08:54 AM by Jon Soles
January 5 is the deadline to pay property taxes for real estate and personal property listed in January 2021.

Property taxes for real estate and personal property listed in January 2021 will be delinquent if not paid by Jan. 5, 2022. Enforced collections such as bank levy, wage or rent garnishments, or foreclosure will begin on Jan. 6, 2022.

Interest and collection fees will be added to the tax amount due beginning Jan.6.

County Government offices and the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Courthouse will be closed Dec. 23-27 for the Christmas holiday. Offices will be closed on Dec. 31 for the New Year’s holiday. The last week of the year is busy for the Tax Administration Office with taxpayers seeking receipts by Dec. 31 for 2021 income tax filing purposes.

Taxpayers may pay their tax bills online, by mail, by phone or in person. Please visit cumberlandcountync.gov/departments/tax-group/tax to pay online with an electronic check, debit card or major credit card. There is a convenience fee for a credit or debit card. There is no fee for electronic check.

To pay by phone, call 1-866-441-6614. Phone payments must be made with a major credit card or debit card.  A credit or debit card convenience fee is charged.

Taxpayers can set up an online bill pay option with their financial institution. It is important that taxpayers using this option verify and update the tax bill number on file with their bank, as it can change annually.

Mailed payments must be made with a check or money order payable to Cumberland County Tax Collector.
