Cumberland County Government will hold a County-wide career fair this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center, located at 1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Nearly two dozen Cumberland County departments will showcase hundreds of available jobs this Friday and Saturday as Cumberland County Government holds a County-wide career fair. The career fair will be held Jan. 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center, located at 1960 Coliseum Drive, Fayetteville.

Branded “New Year, New Career! Empower your Future,” the Career Fair seeks to connect residents of Cumberland County and the surrounding area with available jobs following the County’s implementation of a Classification & Compensation Study in October, which made salaries for County positions more competitive. Other goals are to make residents aware of career opportunities with the County, share information about County programs and services, and help build the community’s capacity to successfully apply for jobs and build careers that improve their lives. The career fair will be held on Friday and Saturday to allow an opportunity for  residents who work different types of schedules, including during the County’s normal hours of operations, to participate.

“The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners has invested in making sure our positions are competitive within the local market and across the State of North Carolina,” said Cumberland County Human Resources Director Dominique Hall. “The goal of this career fair is to make sure our residents know about the job opportunities the County has. Whether you currently have a job or not, we want you to know that Cumberland County is a great place to work and that we have positions available at  entry level and for those who already have experience.”

During the Career Fair, County departments including Animal Services, the Department of Social Services, Department of Public Health, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Public Library, Emergency Services, Tax Administration and Solid Waste Management will have booths  with information about the department and current job opportunities. Job seekers will be able to learn more about County departments and apply for jobs on-site with some departments such as  Social Services even conducting interviews with qualified applicants.

In addition to filling the County’s vacant positions, Hall said, “we also want to give back to our community and lift our residents up so that they have the resources and skills they need to compete for jobs with the County and in the community. Our County departments and employees have stepped up by giving of their time and talents, but also through contributing clothing and other items to support job seekers in our community.”

County staff will provide daily seminars on interview and career skills training each day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and will allow residents to build interview experience through mock interviews each day from noon until 1 p.m. Assistance will be provided for writing resumes and staff will provide basic headshots upon request. Additionally, County staff have also donated gently used clothing that will be available as part of a community interview closet for those who need clothes for job interviews. Community partner organizations will  provide information and assistance related to military transition and criminal history expungement services.

“We want to show that not only is Cumberland County an employer of choice in the region, we are also committed to giving back to the community in which we serve,” said Hall.

In addition to competitive salaries, Cumberland County has a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; paid leave; two-percent 401K contribution; and access to an on-site Employee Wellness Center and Employee Pharmacy. The County is in the process of opening an Employee Childcare Center to provide an option for current and prospective employees who need access to childcare.

The County is also currently providing $2,500 hiring bonuses for new Sheriff’s Deputies and Detention Officers, as well as $2,500 recruitment bonuses for current Sheriff’s Deputies and Detention Officers who recommend an employee who is hired as a Deputy or Detention Officer.
