FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County WIC (Women, Infants, & Children) office on Fort Liberty is moving to a new, permanent location at the Joel Clinic, located at 4861 Logistics St., Fort Liberty. The WIC Fort Liberty office is scheduled to open Aug. 27 at the new location. The WIC office will maintain the same dates and hours of operation and will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Outside of these hours, WIC services are offered at other locations throughout the County.
In March 2023, the Cumberland County Department of Public Health opened a WIC office at 2122 Blackjack Street, in the Public Health Annex on Fort Liberty. The clinic was an initiative of the Food Policy Council and Fort Liberty Public Health Partnership, which is a collaboration with the Fort Liberty Department of Public Health, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
“This office opened in response to a need that was identified by the 2021 Fort Liberty Community Survey which revealed concerns of food insecurity among military families living on and off the base,” said Public Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green. “Since opening, this office has been tremendously successful, and we are excited to be able to continue providing these services at a new permanent location.”
WIC serves low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. WIC provides nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support and health care referrals.
