FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Cumberland County Board of Elections will demonstrate logic and accuracy tests on voting systems that will be used in the upcoming primary election. The logic and accuracy testing begins at 10 a.m. on April 22 and is open to the public. The testing ensures each voting system will correctly count and tabulate each ballot cast.
Logic and accuracy testing is completed before every election to ensure proper coding of ballots and tabulations of votes for every contest. The second statewide primary election is May 14. One-stop early voting begins April 25.
Ballots of each style are coded for a mock election and run through the tabulator. The tests check the voting system’s ability to read each ballot style and the accuracy of the tabulator when counting votes. A bipartisan team oversees the preparation of the machines and ballots and conducts the tests. After testing, Board of Elections staff members will reset the equipment to ensure no logic and accuracy information remains in the system heading into the elections.
Members who wish to witness the logic and accuracy testing may view the equipment preparation and testing as long as they do not interfere with the process.
The Cumberland County Board of Elections is located in the E. Newton Smith center at 227 Fountainhead Lane, Fayetteville. For more information, call 910-678-7733 or visit cumberlandcountync.gov/elections.
