County Issues Burn Ban Due to Hazardous Fire Conditions

Mar 20, 2025

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Due to hazardous fire conditions, Cumberland County Fire Marshal Kevin Lowther has issued a burn ban effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025. This action follows guidance from Local Forest Ranger Craig Gottfried and the North Carolina Forest Service due to dry weather, high winds, and an increased risk of rapid fire spread.

The statewide burn ban, which includes Cumberland County, prohibits all open flames, burning, and fire activities. This ban will be enforced in accordance with Cumberland County’s Fire Prevention Ordinance Section 6.2-26 and NC Fire Code Section 307.1.1 (2018 Ed). The burn ban will remain in effect until the statewide ban is lifted by the North Carolina Forest Service.
