Nov 14, 2024, 08:55 AM by Joshua Villagomez

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – On Thursday, Nov. 7, The Greater Fayetteville Business Journal hosted the 2024 Health Care Heroes award ceremony with over 200 healthcare professionals in attendance. The Health Care Heroes award ceremony recognizes medical professionals for their work to keep their communities happy and healthy. Award categories included Community Achievement, Innovation, Healthcare Executive, Nurse, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Physician, Unsung Hero, Volunteer, and Lifetime Achievement.

At the award ceremony, Dr. Jennifer Green, Director of the Cumberland County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), was honored with the Innovations in Healthcare Award. This award recognizes individuals or teams who have made significant contributions through new scientific discoveries, procedures, treatments, or devices that can save lives or greatly improve quality of life for large populations.

Dr. Green received the award in recognition of her outstanding leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, her ability to coordinate a strategic response involving federal and state authorities was essential. Under her direction, CCDPH opened a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic at Fort Liberty, expanding services to promote the health of mothers and babies. Dr. Green also spearheaded the creation of the Healthy Conversations program and played a key role in launching two pilot initiatives: Connected Care and Maternal Health. Additionally, she has fostered community collaboration through establishing the Cumberland Fayetteville Opioid Response Team (C-FORT) and the Recovery Resource Center, helping address pressing public health challenges.
