The Cumberland County NCWorks Career Center wishes to remind residents who lost a job as a result of Hurricane Florence of employment opportunities still available through an $18.5 million National Dislocated Worker Grant awarded to North Carolina last year in response to Hurricane Florence. Veterans are also encouraged to apply.
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the grant to North Carolina last year after Hurricane Florence, following a request from the N.C. Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions. The program is for residents of the 28 counties declared national disaster areas including Cumberland County.
Residents of these counties may be employed in jobs that support either hurricane clean-up and recovery or humanitarian assistance to residents of the affected areas. Participants in the grant would be employed by nonprofits, government agencies and other employers who fit the criteria of an approved worksite. Worksites must generally be on either public property or land owned by not-for-profit agencies. Workers may be eligible for jobs under the grant by being temporarily or permanently laid off because of the hurricane, or by meeting certain other criteria.
