Nov 15, 2023, 09:27 AM by User Not Found

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County Solid Waste Management and Sustainable Sandhills will host an Electronic Waste Recycling and Shredding Event from 8 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Ann Street Landfill, 698 Ann Street, Fayetteville.

Signs will be placed throughout the landfill to assist with traffic and directions. Residents will use lane one of the scale house to enter the recycling center. Participants should remain in their cars while volunteers unload and sort electronics.

Volunteers aged 16 years or older are needed to sort items and assist during the event. Participants who are seeking credit for volunteer hours are encouraged to sign up. Please email Trinity Vetere at trinity@sustainablesandhills.org or call 910-484-9098.

The e-waste drive aims to help Cumberland County residents properly dispose of old, broken, or unused electronic devices that could contain hazardous materials, such as lead. Proper disposal can help extend the life of the landfill, prevent habitat destruction and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Almost anything with a cord will be recycled for free, including the following:

  • Televisions
  • Batteries
  • Computers (please remove any hard drives)
  • Small kitchen appliances
  • Video game consoles
  • Printers (please remove ink cartridges)
  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets
  • CD/DVD/VHS players
  • Cords
  • Stereo systems
  • Vacuum cleaners

If applicable, please remove all SIM cards and reset electronic devices to factory settings.

If you cannot attend Saturday’s event, please note that Cumberland County Solid Waste Management offers year-round e-waste recycling and shredding services. E-waste is accepted for free at the Ann Street Landfill Monday-Saturday during regular business hours. Shredding costs $.35 per pound and is available on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
